more beach photos

hi everybody!

ema tells me that we're off on another adventure today -- we're driving up to mama and papo's house tonight, and then we'll be in philly for a couple of days, where ema and daddy will be going to a big, geeky conference. on friday night, ema and i are going to meet dodo karen in newark and we're going all the way to israel! i'm very excited!

but, before i head off, here are some more pictures from our beach week, just like i promised.

i wanted this little boy's wagon so badly that i was willing to take him as part of the package:

this is baby ryno (ryan) and his mommy, sally.

for some reason, baby ryno really liked the taste of the sand (what a beach rookie!)

bowyer reunion pic (mark, sarah, matt, daddy & me, and stuart):

and finally, one of me after we got back home. i don't like to do anything without my "choo choo hat" or my "seth shoes"

the beach!

hi everybody! i just got back from spending a week at the beach with ema, daddy, mama (grandmom), papo (grandpa), matmo (uncle matt), enshell (aunt michelle), sarah (daddy's cousin), and tooer (daddy's cousin stuart, aka: not matmo, what that).

we had a great time! ema will post some more photos soon, but here are a couple that grandmom sent us:

running commentary

the latest trend with our little guy is his non-stop running commentary. for example, when i'm trying to read him a book, i have to squeeze the narrative into the short breaks between his comments, such as, "devon turn page now," and "ema reading book." during lunch today, he was careful to account for everybody's whereabouts in the house: "chachi downstairs now. ema downstairs, devon downstairs, daddy upstairs now, chachi downstairs, ema-devon downstairs."

sometimes i prod him into one of his many narratives, such as "chachi sick carpet. papo (grandpa) clean up. papo-mama (grandpa and grandma) bye-bye blue car." other times, i ask him to tell me about people's eyes. he knows that "devon has blue eyes," and, "daddy eyes blue," but that "ema eyes basil (hazel)." he can tell you the color of anybody in the family's eyes: "dodo karen have brown eyes. saba eyes brown. fasa (safta) eyes brown. papo eyes blue. mama eyes blue. kiva eyes brown. doda tali eyes brown. lee have brown eyes. matmo eyes blue."

most of the time, his running commentary is fun and amusing. occasionally it gets embarrasing, like when he talks about "people" (his term for any person whose name he doesn't know). for instance, the other day when we were in a public restroom, i'm sure the lady in the stall next to us was surprised to hear him say, "people making pee pee!"

the travel bug

i seem to have gotten bitten by the travel bug. or maybe it was ema and daddy and they've just taken me along for the ride. in the past two weeks, i have had baths in 7 different tubs in 4 different states, and slept in 5 different cribs in 3 states. and the adventure has just begun.

ema and i started our adventure almost two weeks ago when we went to rhode island to join holli and her family on their beach vacation. right away we felt like a part of the extended family. i loved the beach, but i especially loved all the new shoes i got to explore.

on our way home from rhode island, we visited great aunt michele in baltimore. i had fun playing with all of ginger's toys. ginger is michele's golden retriever. she ate a bagel out of ema's backpack and every day i remind daddy about how funny it was.

after baltimore, we spent a couple of days hanging out in falls church. uncle matmo came up from charlottesville to hang out with us, which was really fun. but the most exciting thing ever was i got to go to the airport to pick grandmom and grandpa up! daddy went and found them and then ema and i snuck up on them while they were waiting for their luggage. i was so excited to see them that i could only sneak a few feet at a time before i would have to stop and giggle hysterically for a bit. eventually, grandmom saw me and she was sooo surprised! i thought she was going to cry, she was so happy to see me.

but it was a very short visit with grandmom and grandpa 'cuz the very next day, ema, daddy and i flew to california. we had one day to visit with saba, savta, dodo karen, doda tali, lee, and kiva, and then we had to hit the road again to go to davis, where ema had a conference to go to.

davis is really, really hot, but it also has lots of trains. daddy and i also went to the sacramento zoo where i saw lots of fish, monkeys, flamingos, zebras, kangaroos, lions, a red panda, and many other animals that i would happily tell you about at another time. this is a picture of me checking out the fish. davis was fun, and it was good to be together as a family even if ema was working the whole time, but i was very anxious to get back to kiva's house. i kept telling daddy about how much i missed kiva.

ever since we got back to kiva's house yesterday, i've been having a great time! i am so excited that we get to stay here and play with all of kiva's toys for a whole 'nother week! i love kiva nooo much!

ahoy matey!

Lately, Daddy and I have been spending a lot of time together in the house.
I keep talking about the boat that Grandmom and Grandpa are on, so Daddy decided to make me a boat out of an old cardboard box. He even attached a sail! I've decorated the sides with my crayons. I love the boat so much that Ema and Daddy had to put a potty in it. No offshore dumping, please!

shoe fettish

ema says i have a shoe fettish. i'm not sure what that means. here are some pictures of me in some of my favorite shoes:

eureka!

today when daddy and i were dancing to the train song (johnny cash's orange blossom special), i made an amazing discovery! i noticed that i had another dance partner that made the same exact moves as me! daddy said it's name is "shadow." i tried to back away from it, but it came with me. at one point, i thought i had lost it, but when i turned around, it was back. i think i like my new friend 'cuz it can keep up with me, but at the same time i'm a little scared of it 'cuz it's so clingy.

some things i say

doda tali suggested that ema should write down some of the things i've been saying lately. here are a few, along with some explanations:
  • latlee dak one day when daddy turned off the light, i said "bite" and he said, "it's actually dark." so now, whenever i go into a dark room, or when ema or daddy turns off the light, i say "latlee dak"
  • no like it this is what i say whenever ema or daddy asks me if i want applesauce
  • lushit! this is what i say after i make poo-poo or pee-pee on the potty. i love to flush the toilet.
  • meema do it a lot of times when daddy wants to help me do something, i decide that ema has to do it. (and lately, i'm starting to say "devon do it" instead of "relf" when i want to do something myself.)
  • doot meel this is what i say after i've finished a big meal or, oddly, after i wake up from a good, long sleep.
  • meema wookin lately ema's been working a lot. i know that she is in the house, but she can't play with me. whenever i start missing her, i just remind myself that she's working, and i know i'll see her later.
  • dageepuzuh one day, when ema and i were playing with my puzzle, she pretended that my stuffed dog was putting the puzzle pieces in. now i always want the doggie to help with the puzzle.
  • inj loon my orange balloon
  • teem green
  • nanak yogurt
  • nanat this is what i say when something is all gone. ema and daddy have no idea where this word came from.
  • mamadooin this is what i say when i run around doing something after ema or daddy asks, "what are you doing?"
  • oh deeah this is what i say when i see the letter O in a book or magazine.
  • noh much this is how much ema loves me (sooooo much)

the scoop on poop

Over the last week, I've been making big poo-poos on the potty.
I also am starting to speak in sentences: "Devon poo-poo potty big."
For some reason, Ema taught me to say, "Daddy poo-poo stinky" and that Ema's poo-poo smells like "[f]lowers". To correct this misperception, Daddy took me to the museum today to see the "Scoop on Poop" exhibit. I saw poo-poo from all sorts of animals. Even an elephant!

D is for Devon

the other day, ema and i were drawing and she showed me what a D looks like. now i see them everywhere. there are Ds on some of my wooden blocks. i have one D magnet. and whenever ema or daddy reads to me, i look for Ds in the book. my favorite books these days are Duck for President and A Duck So Small. both of them have lots of Ds.

nastix

today was the last day of nastix. both ema and daddy came with me, so we have pictures to share with all of you.

we started off doing our obstacle course. i especially love doing my pencil rolls.

next comes stretching. i'm very good at doing a straddle, and can even touch my toes. but i'm best at smelling my toes.

after stretching, we did the balance beam. to get up to the big one, we get to climb the rock wall, which is one of my absolute favorite parts of nastix.

after we finished with the balance beam, we did our routine. we start with everybody standing on a colored dot. today i got to stand on purple, which i was very excited about. in fact, i was so excited about it, that all i wanted to do was stand on the dot. i wouldn't do the rest of the routine, no matter how much ema tried to get me to do it.

since today was the last day, after we finished the routine, coach keisha had an award ceremony. she played the olympic theme music and gave each one of us a ribbon. it was nice of her to give me one even though i didn't do the routine.

we finished up the class with one last turn on the trampoline. i don't know how to jump yet, so coach keisha helped me. but what i really wanted was to jump on the yellow trampoline with ema (or at least that's what ema told keisha).

since it was the last class, keisha let us!

starr trial successful!

we took devon to starr's this morning to see how he would do. he almost didn't notice when i left -- just gave me a kiss and went back to playing with the other kids. when we went back to get him 4 hours later, we found him and the other kids piled around starr listening to a story. devon looked up and smiled at us, but then immediately turned back to point out a bunny in the book. eventually, he gave starr a big hug and kiss bye bye and promptly fell asleep on the car ride home. we're super happy with how it went and are feeling totally lucky to have found starr.

on a separate note, we've discovered that devon's favorite music is punk rock.

a little bit of bragging

so lately devon has been really enjoying playing with our wooden hebrew alphabet puzzle. in the past few days, he's gotten to the point where he can quickly and easily match over half of the pieces to where they go, either by picking up a letter and putting it in its spot, or by finding the right letter when asked to find the one that goes in a spot. we're amazed, and thought you'd be, too!

starr

ema and daddy found someone to take care of me next year. her name is starr. she has a big house full of toys to play with. i'm very excited about the green tractor. by the fall, my legs should be long enough for me to reach its pedals. i was very sad when ema made me get off of it when she and daddy were done talking to starr.

there will be three other kids at starr's next year. logan and madison are both 6 months older than me, and cameron is almost a year older. that's ok. i like playing with big kids.

bye bye milo

after music class today we had a picnic in colonial williamsburg with all our friends. it was fun, but i didn't want to eat. i just wanted to play with rocks. when we were all done, we had to say goodbye to our good friends milo and calder and their mommy and daddy, sara and justin. it was sad. i told milo "miss you."
