the latest trend with our little guy is his non-stop running commentary. for example, when i'm trying to read him a book, i have to squeeze the narrative into the short breaks between his comments, such as, "devon turn page now," and "ema reading book." during lunch today, he was careful to account for everybody's whereabouts in the house: "chachi downstairs now. ema downstairs, devon downstairs, daddy upstairs now, chachi downstairs, ema-devon downstairs."
sometimes i prod him into one of his many narratives, such as "chachi sick carpet. papo (grandpa) clean up. papo-mama (grandpa and grandma) bye-bye blue car." other times, i ask him to tell me about people's eyes. he knows that "devon has blue eyes," and, "daddy eyes blue," but that "ema eyes basil (hazel)." he can tell you the color of anybody in the family's eyes: "dodo karen have brown eyes. saba eyes brown. fasa (safta) eyes brown. papo eyes blue. mama eyes blue. kiva eyes brown. doda tali eyes brown. lee have brown eyes. matmo eyes blue."
most of the time, his running commentary is fun and amusing. occasionally it gets embarrasing, like when he talks about "people" (his term for any person whose name he doesn't know). for instance, the other day when we were in a public restroom, i'm sure the lady in the stall next to us was surprised to hear him say, "people making pee pee!"
